Signs of Abuse

Once again, I have to say that I am not a doctor, psycologist, or anything that has a degree. What I do have is the experience of living with physical and mental abuse for 12 years and then coming out of it, not only surviving, but thriving. Read New Beginnings

Here are some basic signs to look for in your relationship to determine if you are in a abusive relationship. Hint-If other people are telling you they see these signs, it may be time to take them seriously.

1.Every time you want to do something with family and friends, they find a excuse for you of why you should turn them down. They are trying to seclude you.

2. Nothing you do is right. They make it a point to let you know that you can't do anything without them. They want you to think you can't be successful without their input.

3. They have to control every situation of every day all day. All of a sudden you don't know how to do things that you have been doing your entire life, without incident.

4. They have to approve how you dress, who you can socialize with, your makeup, when you can socialize as long as it is with their friends, when and where you can be etc. Do you have to explain every minute of every day?

5. Everything has to be a major secret. This is the famous, "keep this between us or I will make you regret it" scenario.

6. You have to explain every conversation in detail that you have. You are not allowed to have any privacy and are constantly watched like a hawk.

7. When you are in front of others, you are embarassed, put down, or treated like a child with absolutely zero respect.

8. Your opinions, feelings, desires etc have absolutely no meaning. You are told that you can't survive without them and that they 'own' you. If they can't have you, no one can have you mentality.

9. You are not allowed access to money, phone, etc. They want to keep you completely dependent on them for survival.

10. If you have been hit, slapped, punched, slammed, etc then you are being abused. It will only get worse. If it happenned once, then it will happen again and again until you take serious action.
